Medical Advice for Mountaineers and Explorers

Adventure travel, climbing and skiing in remote regions of the world represents a great investment in time and resources on your part. It also presents a unique series of risks that are best addressed by good pre-trip planning and having professional resources to deal with them. In addition to utilizing professional mountain guides to make your trip safe and memorable, I can help you with the medical issues that you may face during your trip.

With greater than 20 years of experience in Emergency Medicine and my training and skills as a mountain guide, I understand the complexity of medicine and how it relates to your safety in the mountains.

I have counseled many individuals, guides and teams prior to and during expeditions to remote regions of the world including :

  • Denali,
  • Pakistan,
  • Aconcongua,
  • Tibet,
  • Peruvian Andes
  • Close to home in the Rocky Mountains of Wyoming, Montana and Colorado

Lets face it, stuff happens when you least expect it. Whether it's a question about acclimatization the effects of altitude on your underlying health or an injury, I can offer guidance or assist with the types of medication that you should have with you  while in the mountains.

I will send you a confidential medical questionnaire and review this directly with you either on skype or face-time so all questions are answered pre-trip. If you require medications, I will offer sound advice on what to take with them.

Please feel free to contact me to arrange a consultation. I charge a reasonable fee for this service.
